Food donations for National Hunger and homeless awareness week
It’s that time of year to donate to the ones less fortunate, an opportunity to give will come knocking on your door when local volunteers come by.
Marco Island, Florida. November 11th, 2008. -- As November rolls in, Thanksgiving draws near, a wonderful time of year to enjoy thanks for family and food. An American tradition of turkey, green bean casserole and a delicious array of desserts and delights. At home, with the family and closest friends.
This year, due to the unfortunate situation with the economy, foreclosures and financial struggles of many, this thanksgiving may not be such a happy one. The current burdens and stresses on families and seniors are risking the importance of this annual tribute to be thankful for what we have.
Furthermore, with the tightening of finances for the ones that 'get by', the ability to donate money and time has slowed from a raging river of support, to a drying riverbed.
Right now in our area, thousands are struggling with hunger and homelessness. These are people who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even longer. Collier county is one of the wealthiest in Florida and you may not come in contact with people affected by this tragic situation, but they are there and they need our help.
The DeClark Team with Independent Brokers Realty along with Marco Small engine repair and Psychic Truth, are joining forces with other local businesses and individuals to help this thanksgiving. The national Hunger and homeless awareness week is on November 16th -22nd.
In the coming week, a number of Marco Island volunteers will be door knocking and asking for donations of non-perishable food; such as pasta, rice, soup, canned meat and vegetables, clothes, blankets, books and toys. You may also drop your donations at IBR office, 1035 N. Collier Blvd, suite 312 in the Marco Island Town Center, Marco Small Engine Repair at 47 Front St, near the Marco Polo restaurant and Psychic Truth, booth #139 at the Big Cypress Marketplace.
